Chapter 3:The Dragon Tamer
The door screeched a high pitch note as Ozran walked back to his bedroom. Faldor had decided to let them stay, considering that they would not be safe anywhere else. He yawns and takes of this cape he had on. Reaching for the small candle that lay on the candle beside his bed he blows it out and then slips into bed.
The sweet smell of coocorock eggs and the bloubi juice sweped through the hall and into the bedrooms waking Ozran and Damon up fast. Both of them very hungry, gathered there things and walked into the main entrance where they talked to Faldor the night before. There was sitting on a unique table two plates full with all kinds o food. They quickly eat up, not even thinking about where Faldor was. After that meal they grabbed there things and where about to leave when Damon saw a note on the door. "It's from Faldor”
Ozran and Damon, I will be gone when you get this note so this is all the more you will need on you journey to Lamdrag Mountain. There is only one way to get passed the Dragons. You will find there and dragon tamer by the name of Shandon. He is the only dragon tamer left that I know of. You will need him to get passed the dragons. Just remember what I told you two last night, and you will not fail.
Faldor
P.S. Don't forget the name of the plant, its Jerisony. And don't worry about the Shori, I took care of her for you.
They both look each other then hurried out the door. Peering to see the dark dragon in the dark they. they discover that the black beast was not to be seen. So Ozran and Damon head north all the way north to Lamdrag Mountain.
As they were passing through the dead forest. The heard footsteps right in front of them, the trees blocking there vision. Damon could tell it was human, a man. He nodded to Ozran.
Ozran nodded back and they hid behind the first large tree in sight. The stranger's pace was slow and calm, he came into Damons sight. He was fondling with something in his hand, a green gem of some sort. Ozran and Damon gripped their weapons that Faldor gave them, Ozran an elven sword, and Damon an elven bow and arrows.
The man was now about ten feet from them. They jumped out from behind the tree and pointed there weapons at him.
"Do not move, and you will not be harmed."
The man stood there staring at them. He smiled menacingly. Damon pulled the bow tighter, ready to fire. Damon noticed that the man was holding some kind of sword, one that Damon or Ozran had never seen before.
"Drop your weapon”
The man made so sign that he would.
“Now!”
His smile widened. Damon didn’t trust him. The two companions felt the ground shake beneath them. They looked at the stranger and noticed he was holding the odd stone in his other hand again. Damon released his arrow, it shot straight toward his chest with amazing speed.
He gripped the stone tighter and a spire of earth shot up right in front of him and blocked the arrow.
Ozran ran up to him and sliced to spire that blocked his way to the man.
(We have not yet completed this part, we need Jase to finish it with us. I haven’t been able to get ahold of him, we are going to skip it for now, and finish it later. Here is the next part of the story.)
When they left the dead forest, Ozran and Damon could now see Mount Lamdrag. I was a large black mountain, with dragons of all shapes and sizes flying around it.
As they approached, the sun was above them, scorching there skin. The dragons seemed ferocious. Damon, especially, was frightened. He had only see a dragon up close once before, Shori, Faldor's dragon, but she was asleep. He didn't want to know what dragon's were like awake, but he knew he must do it, for his people, for his brother.
The mountain was larger now, they were only less than a mile away from the base. Some of the dragons neared them as they circled around, eyeing them. They didn't know what they were going to do when they got to the mountain, or how they would find this... Shandon, but they had faith that Faldor would not steer them wrong.
The Dragons started getting closer, the one of them, a rather small but mean looking one, got low. About 20 feet above them. It came down slowly to the ground in front of them blacking there path. Damon and Ozran were frightened beyond there wits.
More came down, all around them, surrounding them. Damon panicked, Ozran got some yellow powder from his pack and threw it at one, it sneezed, but nothing more. Then he to panicked.
The a particularly large, green dragon came down, they noticed that a man.... or at least he thought it was a man, was riding the dragon.
He came down in front of them, the dragons that were in front before backed away.
The man jumped off the dragon and walked toward them.
But, he wasn't human... he was...
"Who are you people to think you can come on my land of Lamdrag mountain?" The man shouted glaring at them with his snakelike eyes. Ozran and Damon both looked at him weirdly and Ozran said "We seek a man named Shandon"
"I am Shandon keeper of the piece of dragons on mount Lamdrag," he paused for a moment then a small smile came upon his face. "if it wasn't for me you two would of been the dragons lunch". As he said that he saw Damon behind Ozran and he peaked around and looked at Damon and said "an elf!? i thought your species were all dead?"
"Some are still alive. They are just in hiding."
Then Shandon said with a smile on his face " what can I do for you...?"
Damon came out from behind Ozran, now knowing the dragons would not attack him. "We are looking an herb called Jerisony, the great wizard Faldor told us to come here."
"Jerisony only grows on the other side of this mountain, I can get you in, but it will be difficult. It is guarded by Orcs and Evil dragons."
"If that's what we need to do," said Damon, trying to act confident "We will."
"And why would I help you two, I mean, what's in it for me?"
Ozran, just trying to pay attention, was a little startled when Shandon's dark red eye's turned to him. "Nothing!" Ozran said almost carelessly, " The only pleasure or satisfaction that will come to you from this, know that you saved the life's of a human town, and maybe the hole human race." Ozran's eye's squinted then relaxed, raising his eye brows.
"Wow," Damon whispered to himself. "Déjà Vu."
"Nothing, you say?" asked Shandon "Well, before you go saying there's nothing in it for me, how about I let you meet some of my dragon friends, eh? Then you can tell me that there's nothing in it for me, if your still alive, that is. " He snickered "Now shall you reconsider or not?
Damon went through the same conversation with Ozran, except the fact that Shandon wanted to kill them. He couldn't see why men always wanted something, like they couldn't do anything and not get a reward. "Your going to have your dragons kill us because you won't receive anything for a good deed? That makes a lot of sense. You could just say that you won't help us."
"Well on my terms, I am your only choice maybe not a material item as a reward but maybe a on lasting friendship, like the one between me and my dragon Drakon"(he pointed at the large green dragon). "I mean I'm not lonely up here the dragons keep me plenty company, but I need human interaction."
"Well, you needn't ask that as a reward. So you'll help us?"
"I feel no compassion for your tribe or town, but if you say Derivon is behind this I must, he is responsible for my parents being murdered. Lets go were wasting time its this way." Shandon said
Damon wondered if there was some kind of catch to the dragon tamer's request. He didn't like the fact the he would be obligated to be his friend, so far, Shandon was not his Idea of a good friend. Damon still didn't know what Shandon was, he looked reptilian, like a larkz, but acted and moved like a human.
Shandon waved his hand to them to get going, he was already on his dragon, Drakon. Damon didn't move, he knew that he needed the Jerisony for the sake of his camp, but was contemplating if they should trust him. He didn't feel very much good in him, but then again, he was helping them, all he wanted is friendship.
Faldor told them about the Orcs and evil dragons guarding the Jerisony, and told them how to get past, the reason they needed Shandon, was so they could get past his mountain, and help them with the task of the evil dragons.
"Come on! Before I change my mind." yelled Shandon from the dragons back.
Damon looked at Ozran's eyes, to try to see what he was thinking.
Ozran had nothing to say, him demands were met and nothing to life treating accrued. Ozran nodded to Damon, and they both quickly ran behind Shandon.
"Follow Me." He yelled back as Drakon took off with Shandon on his back.
They ran up to what seemed to be the top of the mountain, but then looking up with disbelief, they could see that what large distance they had traveled was really only a small leg to the top of the mountain. They could still see Shandon soaring in the sky with his green dragon. Drakon's powerful wings made brown dust clouds in the sky. Finally they came to a opening or pass in the mountain, leading to the other side. Shandon swoops down in front of the pass, then gets off his pet beast. Ozran looks and Damon with a puzzled look.
"Faldor didn't tell us about this." Ozran stated to Damon
They had encountered a huge pit of lave and Shandon said" it is the only way to get across but I usually fly across, how will you two get across" "I know!" He said."ill fly you across but let me have a word with my dragon for a sec" Damon heard Shandon mumble something to Drakon and then Shandon said "OK, come on.”
Damon and Ozran slowly walked toward the large green beast.
"Stroke his head before you get on so he'll get used to you." Shandon told Damon "If you don't..." He snickered. "Well, lets just say if you don't, and he doesn't like you, you won't be around to see another spring..."
That comment made Damon go stiff, he didn't feel like he wanted very much to even get close to a dragon this big, let alone touch one. but he'd rather do that then...
"Come on. We haven't got all day..." Said Shandon impatiently.
Damon walked toward the Dragons head, it's huge yellow eyes glared at him. He slowly took up his hand, and laid it on the dragons cold green scales. He started to pet it, and the Dragon slowly closed it's eyes, hot steam blew out of his nostrils, scaring the young elf out of his wits and making him hurriedly pull his hand back.
"You fool!" Shandon said "try again this time don't pull away"
Damon, again, was taken aback, he thought he did good. Reluctantly he tried again, stroking the Dragons ruff scales. Again it closed it's eyes, Damon felt scared, hoping he wouldn't do something wrong. The dragon bobbed his head a few times, then, without noticed, it steamed through it's nostrils. It took al of Damon's will power not to take his hand away. Damon felt glad, he was beginning to like this dragon, although he seemed ferocious, it didn't seem at all dangerous when he petted it. Damon kept petting him, he had never had a pet before, but he realized now how much he would like one, maybe even a Dragon. But that would be ridiculous.
Drakon seemed to enjoy the young elf’s company, Damon had once heard stories that Elf and Dragons once lived together, equally, not one higher than the other. Damon could see why, Drakon seemed noble, someone you could have as a friend.
Damon, once horrified of Dragons, now wanted to have one of his own. Damon thought that he had petting the dragon enough and, with his hand still on the dragon head, jumped on his back. He felt comfortable like this, as if...
"How did you do that?!"
The voice interrupted his thoughts. He took his hand of the dragon and looked around, Shandon was looking at him with disbelief. Did he do something wrong?
"Do what?"
"How did you get on Drakon so easily?" Shandon said. "That is weird"
The door screeched a high pitch note as Ozran walked back to his bedroom. Faldor had decided to let them stay, considering that they would not be safe anywhere else.
